Children's Safety is of Utmost Concern
Have you ever been safe? I don't mean when you stood on base after a solid lick on a ball to right field. I mean really safe.
Alabama Baptist Children's Homes & Family Ministries ministers to children who think safe is when you lock yourself behind your bedroom door or when your guardians are at work or asleep. Examples would include:
- the young, black male who slept with his clothes hidden between the mattresses to prevent thieves from stealing them in the night
- the teen-aged girl who would sleep with her socks on and who hid the only $3 to her name
- the traumatized child who slept every day at school because she knew the teacher wouldn't let her mother beat her there.
We at Alabama Baptist Children's Homes & Family Ministries strive to create a safe environment where children can be concerned about the good things in life such as school grades, homeruns, and squeaking their clarinets. Children are nurtured and protected so they can understand that when they pray "Now I lay me down to sleep," they know for sure that our Lord and His servants will keep them safe.
- Jimmie Harris, Houseparent at Decatur Campus
